Wat Saeng Dao Buddhist Arts Learning Center: A Hub for Preserving and Passing on Nan's Local Artistic Heritage ศูนย์การเรียนรู้พุทธศิลป์วัดแสงดาว: แหล่งอนุรักษ์และสืบสานภูมิปัญญาช่างศิลป์พื้นถิ่นน่าน

In an era where local wisdom is fading with time, Saeng Dao Temple  in Fai Kaeo Subdistrict, Phu Phiang District, Nan Province, has emerged as a center for preserving and passing on the valuable Buddhist artistic craftsmanship of Nan. This is achieved through the establishment of the "Wat Saeng Dao Buddhist Arts Learning Center," initiated by Phra Maha Thanaphon Thammaphalo, known locally as "Phra Ajarn Maha Lo," the abbot of Saeng DaoTemple and chairman of the Nan Buddhist Arts Group. The temple was founded in 1947 by Kruba Inta, a revered forest monk, and for over 76 years. This temple has not only been the spiritual center of the community but also a repository of knowledge and wisdom in local Buddhist artistic craftsmanship passed down through generations.
ในยุคที่ภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่นกำลังเลือนหายไปตามกาลเวลา วัดแสงดาว ตำบลฝายแก้ว อำเภอภูเพียง จังหวัดน่าน ได้ก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นศูนย์กลางในการอนุรักษ์และสืบสานงานช่างพุทธศิลป์อันล้ำค่าของเมืองน่าน ผ่านการจัดตั้ง "ศูนย์การเรียนรู้พุทธศิลป์วัดแสงดาว" โดยความริเริ่มของพระมหาธนพล ธมฺมพโล หรือที่ชาวน่านรู้จักกันในนาม "พระอาจารย์มหาโล่" เจ้าอาวาสวัดแสงดาวและประธานกลุ่มพุทธศิลป์น่าน วัดแสงดาว ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2490 โดยครูบาอินต๊ะ ครูบามหาป่าผู้เป็นที่เคารพนับถือของชาวบ้าน ตลอดระยะเวลากว่า 76 ปี วัดแห่งนี้ไม่เพียงเป็นศูนย์รวมจิตใจของชุมชน แต่ยังเป็นแหล่งรวมองค์ความรู้และภูมิปัญญางานช่างพุทธศิลป์ท้องถิ่นที่สืบทอดกันมาจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น

Recognizing the value of this heritage, Phra Ajarn Maha Lo initiated the establishment of the Buddhist Arts Learning Center within the temple, aiming to revive, preserve, and pass on Buddhist artistic craftsmanship as a cultural legacy of Nan's people. Developing this learning center was no easy task, but with the wider vision and dedication of Phra Ajarn Maha Lo, collaboration emerged from various sectors. These include the Thailand Academy of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (TASSHA), Nan Provincial Administrative Organization, National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA), as well as Nan Study Center, Nan City Identity Hall, and Nan Community College. These collaborations led to the development of various projects and activities such as creating a Buddhist arts database, training artisans, and establishing an archival hall.
ด้วยตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของภูมิปัญญาเหล่านี้ พระอาจารย์มหาโล่จึงได้ริเริ่มจัดตั้งศูนย์การเรียนรู้พุทธศิลป์ขึ้นภายในวัด โดยมีเป้าหมายในการฟื้นฟู อนุรักษ์ และสืบสานงานช่างพุทธศิลป์ให้คงอยู่เป็นมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมของชาวน่านสืบไป การพัฒนาศูนย์การเรียนรู้แห่งนี้ไม่ใช่เรื่องง่าย แต่ด้วยวิสัยทัศน์และความมุ่งมั่นของพระอาจารย์มหาโล่ ทำให้เกิดความร่วมมือจากหลายภาคส่วน อาทิ โครงการจัดตั้งวิทยสถานสังคมศาสตร์ มนุษยศาสตร์และศิลปกรรมศาสตร์แห่งประเทศไทย (TASSHA) องค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัดน่าน สำนักงานวิจัยแห่งชาติ (วช.) องค์การบริหารการพัฒนาพื้นที่พิเศษเพื่อการท่องเที่ยวอย่างยั่งยืน (อพท.) รวมถึงศูนย์น่านศึกษา หออัตลักษณ์นครน่าน และวิทยาลัยชุมชนน่าน ความร่วมมือเหล่านี้นำไปสู่การพัฒนาโครงการและกิจกรรมต่างๆ เช่น การจัดทำฐานข้อมูลพุทธศิลป์ การฝึกอบรมช่างศิลป์ และการจัดตั้งหอจดหมายเหตุขององค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัดน่าน 

Over the past two years, the Wat Saeng Dao Buddhist Arts Learning Center has grown rapidly, becoming a repository of knowledge in Buddhist arts, silverware, Nan textiles, and folk music. This has led to the development of local Nan Buddhist art curricula in various disciplines such as wooden Buddha image carving, fresh stucco work, gilding, palm leaf manuscript creation, and pillow cover embroidery. Additionally, workshops are organized to train and transfer knowledge to all interested groups, including artisans, youth, monks, novices, and the general public. The center's operations have yielded impressive results, such as the formation of various artisan groups, the creation of new works building upon traditional wisdom, and the exhibition of some works at the Nan City Identity Hall.
ในช่วงเวลากว่า 2 ปีที่ผ่านมา ศูนย์การเรียนรู้พุทธศิลป์วัดแสงดาวได้เติบโตอย่างรวดเร็ว กลายเป็นแหล่งรวบรวมองค์ความรู้ด้านพุทธศิลป์ เครื่องเงิน ผ้าน่าน และดนตรีพื้นบ้าน นำไปสู่การพัฒนาหลักสูตรพุทธศิลปกรรมท้องถิ่นน่านในหลากหลายแขนง เช่น การแกะสลักพระพุทธรูปไม้ งานปูนปั้นสด การลงรักปิดทอง การทำคัมภีร์ใบลาน และงานปักผ้าหน้าหมอน นอกจากนี้ ยังมีการจัดกิจกรรมเวิร์คช็อปเพื่อฝึกทักษะและถ่ายทอดความรู้ให้แก่ผู้สนใจทุกกลุ่ม ทั้งช่างฝีมือ เยาวชน พระสงฆ์ สามเณร และประชาชนทั่วไป การดำเนินงานของศูนย์การเรียนรู้ฯ ได้ก่อให้เกิดผลลัพธ์ที่น่าภาคภูมิใจหลายประการ เช่น การรวมตัวของกลุ่มช่างศิลป์แขนงต่างๆ การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานใหม่ๆ ที่ต่อยอดจากภูมิปัญญาดั้งเดิม และการนำผลงานบางส่วนไปจัดแสดงที่หออัตลักษณ์นครน่าน

The outstanding success of the Wat Saeng Dao Buddhist Arts Learning Center is reflected through two notable students. The first is Ms. Phawee Boonsri, or Beer, owner of "Baan Silpa Him Nan," a small art studio in Muang Tuet Subdistrict, Phu Phiang District, Nan Province. This studio provides a space for all ages to learn and create art works, whether it's lightweight clay modeling, fresh stucco work, or painting, amidst the lush atmosphere by the Nan River.
ตัวอย่างความสำเร็จที่โดดเด่นของศูนย์การเรียนรู้พุทธศิลป์วัดแสงดาว สะท้อนให้เห็นผ่านผู้เรียนสองท่าน คนแรกคือ นางสาวภาวี บุญศรี หรือเบียร์ เจ้าของ "บ้านศิลปะฮิมน่าน" สตูดิโอศิลปะขนาดเล็กในตำบลม่วงตึ๊ด อำเภอภูเพียง จังหวัดน่าน ที่เปิดพื้นที่ให้ทุกคนได้เรียนรู้และสร้างสรรค์งานศิลปะ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นงานปั้นดินเบา ปูนสด หรือจิตรกรรม ท่ามกลางบรรยากาศร่มรื่นริมแม่น้ำน่าน



The other is Ms. Apinyata Tanakwang, a cultural affairs specialist from the Nan Provincial Cultural Office, who participated in a one-month Nan-style mural painting course in March 2023. The intensive training not only enabled her to create beautiful mural artworks but also allowed her to absorb invaluable knowledge that is hard to find elsewhere. Furthermore, several other course participants have been able to leverage their acquired skills, generating income by selling their own artworks. This success highlights the value and potential of preserving and passing on Nan's local art in the present day.
อีกท่านคือ นางสาวอภิญญาตา ทนะขว้าง นักวิชาการวัฒนธรรมชำนาญการจากสำนักงานวัฒนธรรมจังหวัดน่าน ผู้เข้าร่วมหลักสูตรวาดภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนังสกุลช่างน่านเป็นเวลาหนึ่งเดือนในมีนาคม 2566 การฝึกฝนอย่างเข้มข้นทำให้เธอไม่เพียงสามารถสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมที่งดงาม แต่ยังได้ซึมซับองค์ความรู้อันล้ำค่าที่หาได้ยาก นอกจากนี้ ยังมีผู้เข้าร่วมหลักสูตรอีกหลายคนที่สามารถนำความรู้ไปต่อยอด สร้างรายได้จากการจำหน่ายผลงานของตนเอง สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงคุณค่าและศักยภาพของการอนุรักษ์และสืบสานงานศิลปะพื้นถิ่นน่านในยุคปัจจุบัน

The Wat Saeng Dao Buddhist Arts Learning Center is thus not merely a place for learning and practicing local crafts but also a space for preserving and passing on the valuable wisdom of Nan's people. With collaboration from all sectors and the dedication of leaders like Phra Ajarn Maha Lo, Buddhist artistic craftsmanship is being revived and developed to be both contemporary and vibrant. This serves as a good example of sustainable cultural preservation, which not only maintains cultural heritage but also creates value for the community.
