Nestled in the heart of Nan city, on Suman Thevarat Road Soi 2, stands Hong Chao Fong Kham, a two-hundred-year-old wooden house. This architectural gem of Lanna is a treasure trove waiting to be discovered, reflecting the way of life, wisdom, and culture of Lanna that has been passed down to the present day.

The Meaning and History
The word "Hong" in the Lanna vernacular means the residence of a nobleman. This house was passed down from Hong Chao Fong Kham, the daughter of Chao Bunyuang and Chao Intha, a noble family of Nan city. The house is constructed entirely of wood, raised on a high foundation, and features a traditional Lanna structure with a gable roof tiled with earthenware tiles. It consists of four houses connected by verandas and walkways, with the front entrance having a covered staircase.

โฮงเจ้าฟองคำ คำว่า "โฮง" ในภาษาพื้นเมืองล้านนา หมายถึง เรือนพักอาศัยของเจ้านาย โฮงแห่งนี้ สืบทอดมาจากเจ้าฟองคำ ธิดาของเจ้าบุญยืนกับเจ้าอินต๊ะ สายสกุลเจ้านายเมืองน่าน ตัวเรือนสร้างด้วยไม้ทั้งหลัง ยกพื้นสูง โครงสร้างแบบล้านนาโบราณ หลังคาทรงจั่ว มุงด้วยกระเบื้องดินขอ ประกอบด้วยเรือน 4 หลัง แบ่งเป็นห้องต่างๆ ทั้งห้องนอน ห้องรับแขก ห้องครัว เชื่อมต่อกันด้วยชานและทางเดิน บันไดทางขึ้นบ้านอยู่ด้านหน้า มีหลังคาคลุม

A Testament to Lanna Craftsmanship
A distinctive feature of Hong Chao Fong Kham is the use of wood split with axes and knives for the house structure, without the use of nails. This showcases the invaluable wisdom of Lanna carpenters. The house has been well-maintained, and although some alterations have been made to suit the times, it still retains its original charm.


เอกลักษณ์อันโดดเด่นของโฮงเจ้าฟองคำ คือ การใช้วิธีการผ่าไม้ด้วยขวานและมีด ประกอบตัวเรือนโดยไม่ใช้ตะปู แสดงถึงภูมิปัญญาอันล้ำค่าของช่างไม้ล้านนา ตัวบ้านได้รับการดูแลรักษาอย่างดี ถึงแม้จะมีการปรับเปลี่ยนบางส่วนเพื่อให้เหมาะสมกับยุคสมัย แต่ยังคงกลิ่นอายความเก่าแก่ดั้งเดิมไว้ได้อย่างครบถ้วน

A Living Museum: Learning Lanna Way of Life and Wisdom
Hong Chao Fong Kham has received the Outstanding Architectural Conservation Award in the category of Residential Buildings (Khum Chao) in 2012 from the Siam Architect Association. This recognition cements Hong Chao Fong Kham's value as a precious cultural heritage of the nation. The house exhibits various artifacts that reflect the way of life of the people of Nan in the past, such as silverware, local woven fabrics, weaving tools, and household utensils. Visitors can wander through the house, learning about the way of life, culture, traditions, and wisdom of the Nan people up close.

พิพิธภัณฑ์มีชีวิต เรียนรู้วิถีชีวิตและภูมิปัญญาล้านนาโฮงเจ้าฟองคำ ได้รับรางวัลอาคารอนุรักษ์สถาปัตยกรรมดีเด่น ประเภทบ้านพักอาศัย (คุ้มเจ้า) ประจำปี 2555 จากสมาคมสถาปนิคสยาม เป็นเครื่องหมายเชิดชูคุณค่าของโฮงเจ้าฟองคำ ในฐานะมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมอันล้ำค่าของชาติ ที่นี่จัดแสดงข้าวของเครื่องใช้ต่างๆ สะท้อนวิถีชีวิตของชาวน่านในอดีต เช่น เครื่องเงิน ผ้าทอพื้นเมือง อุปกรณ์การทอผ้า เครื่องมือเครื่องใช้ในครัวเรือน ฯลฯ  นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถเดินชม เรียนรู้วิถีชีวิต วัฒนธรรม ประเพณี และภูมิปัญญาของชาวน่านได้อย่างใกล้ชิด

More than just a local museum, this place has taken the initiative to develop the space within the house into a living cultural learning center. This has been done by reviving local curricula that have been with the community for over 200 years. This precious legacy, passed down through generations, provides a learning space for the younger generation to showcase their potential and discover their talents through a variety of activities, including:
