Hok Peng - Where Folk Art and Community Spirit Come Alive

In the sacred atmosphere of the Hok Peng Festival at Wat Phra That Chae Haeng temple, DASTA Nan created the “Nan Creative Crafts and Folk Art Space1,” which wasn’t just an event but a rebirth of the soul of folk art.

“Kad Mua Krua Hom” was my highlight. The design, using local bamboo materials, created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The live performances of “Sor” (Northern Thai music) and folk music weren’t just shows but a real preservation of culture.

It was a platform for the younger generations to express their love for their roots, and seeing the growing number of young “Sor” artists, I believe that the sounds of “Sor” and traditional folk music will be heard for many years to come.

“Tee Lop Fon” (The Shelter from the Rain) was another of the best parts of the festival, reflecting a thoughtful emphasis on creativity. The stone bead bracelet making, highlighting the beauty of natural stones, and the beads for children provided a space for everyone to create their own works of jewelry. In addition, the postcard and natural color activities allowed children to experience the colors of Nan’s plants, soil, and stones by creating art in a relaxed atmosphere. The warm and friendly feeling of the place led parents to jokingly call it the “childcare center.” Because of this, it wasn’t just an activity, but the creation of a space for joy and memories.

The “Nan Creative Crafts and Folk Art Space1” wasn’t just a trade fair; it was an inspiration for creativity and will help Nan become a UNESCO Creative City. The many types of folk crafts and creative activities attracted both tourists and locals and gave the community the chance to show its potential and be proud of its cultural heritage.

DASTA Nan hopes that this event will contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage and help the community earn income. For me, it showed that Nan’s art and culture aren’t just about the past, but also about the present and the future. It’s the heart of the city, which makes the lives and pride of its people stronger.
